Musical Audition Notes

Many thanks for auditioning for The Mikado. This production is to be presented in a modern musical style. Although few words and melody lines will change the orchestral backing will have a modern feel in many numbers. With this in mind the soloists are encouraged to take a more modern vocal approach and it would be useful for the auditioning panel to hear this at the audition. Don’t be put off by this, if you relax and enjoy the melodies, rather than too much emphasis on singing the pieces in the traditional way, the modern style I want to encourage will no doubt be the result. All tempos and phrasing therefore are entirely at your discretion. We are looking for YOUR interpretation of an updated, relaxed, exciting and enjoyable presentation of this classic G&S work.
